5-HTP, also known as 5-hydroxytryptophan, is the direct precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin. Low levels of serotonin are associated with sleep problems, depression, anxiety, compulsive eating disorders, restless leg syndrome, migraines, fibromyalgia and low pain threshold.
